Moab Half Marathon

Dane competed in his first half marathon this past weekend. He signed up with Jo, Yami and Aaron. Prior to the race he ran 0 miles. Zero, Zilch, nada... Crazy, I know. He left on friday night with the boys and stayed in Green River. We (Amanda & I) decided last minute to drive down and support the boys. We left early on Saturday morning along with Robbie, Sharon, and Christiana. We were so surprised we didn't have to stop at all. It was such a quick drive down. We barely made it in time to see Yami pass by. He beat his time from last year. Next came Ev and Kelii and I wasn't prepared, so no pictures. We figured Aaron would be next and sure enough he was!

We predicted Dane would be next and instead Jo came running by, not even looking tired. He had stomach issues and rode in the EMT van. The EMT dropped him off at mile twelve where he met up with Aaron and finished the last mile or so.

The kids were so excited to see Dane. He was so tired. The kids were yelling, "Come on Daddy, run!" He was so tired he only had to enough to run through the finish line.

Dane said he did a lot of talking to himself to get him to finish. He said the wind was killer. I've been reading a lot of running blogs and everyone has been saying CEP compression socks are the best. We bought him some and he is a fan of them. His calves were the only thing not hurting.

Dane has been telling everyone he finished in the top ten... if you counted from the back. We are still very proud he finished the race.

We checked into our room after the race. Everyone was pretty tired but we went for a drive, watched BYU destroy Gonzaga, took the kids swimming in the pool, and had dinner at the Moab Diner. It was nice to finally get some sleep that night.

The hotel had complimentary breakfast and we checked out of the hotel before heading to dead horse point. It was windy and kind of chilly.

After getting lunch and gas in green river we made the drive back to Jo's where my parents had dinner for us. Thank you! The kids did really well on the drive back too. Wish the weather was nicer but glad we were able to see our daddy race. I don't think it will be happening again. :) Or so he says.
