Every year since birth, brayden goes to get chest xrays up at Primary Children's. He was born with a heart murmur, which is very common, but they like to know what is causing it. Well every year brayden has either moved around a lot or cried so loud that they couldn't see or hear it very well. So they tell us to come back next year. This year he cried but didn't move for the x-rays and then he stopped crying just so the doctor could listen to his heart. He got cheetos for being so good. I guess this information is needed for when he goes to the dentist. Something about having to take antibiotics when they give meds for dental or medical procedures. So we have a card. We are suppose to give it to anyone administering drugs to him. So dentists, doctors etc... The antibiotics keep bacteria out of his blood.
They found he has a bicuspid aortic valve. I learned a lot about the heart today. Supposedly normal aortic valves have three leaflets(holes). Brayden's only has two and that causes a clicking noise. So that is causing his murmur. It is the most common in heart congenital defects affecting about 20 in every 1000 babies born. Anyway we only have to go one more time and do a MRI so in the future if something changed, they would have a good x-ray to compare it to. Lucky for Bray, cause he hates going! The doctor asked if his energy level was any different from other children. Hmm.. Yesterday at church his nursery teacher asked if he ever slows down. He described brayden as energetic and excited about everything. So I think he is doing just fine!

We are doing GREAT. Ollie is huge...not quite as big as Brayden..but still. Thanks for the tip on the video...I successfully posted my first one tonight. So proud. The thing about the heart murmur is scary...Ollie went for his 18 month check up (even though he's 20...my bad) and they said that he has a slight murmur, but since they haven't heard it before they said that it was innocent. Really? Can a heart murmur ever be innocent?
You know, at his 2 week appointment the doctor ordered an echo and we were so worried. It was our first baby and it freaked us out. But as time has gone on and talking to doctors. I guess it really isn't that big of a deal. His is only congenital because he was born with it. He can have a totally normal life and really shouldn't affect him in any way. So in some ways his might be innocent also. I'm not really sure what that term means. We are grateful that it isn't something serious. You should see the kid, he has so much energy so we are not worried anymore. Our doctor was great!! explained everything to us. So as scary as anything with the heart is, we are glad it isn't something more serious. But it is hard, I know...
