Not a Febrile Seizure

Our rescheduled (and rescheduled again) appoinment was today. We found out a lot of information about seizures and the type of seizure Brayden had. Since they found 'abnormalities' in his EEG, it can't be considered a febrile seizure. The fever probably did bring on his seizure but other things might cause him to have another one. Things such as lack of sleep, illness, stress, hitting his head, or even not enough food and water could cause him to have a seizure. Just because he has a tendency to have seizures doesn't mean that he will for sure have them again, but there is always a chance. The 'abnormalities' they found in his brain were pretty minor. They said until he had another seizure, they probably wouldn't treat him with medication. I didn't want to have to put him on medication anyways. We can't let him swim or take a bath by himself (which we don't anyways, he's too little) and we have to have him wear a helmet when he rides his bike (probably a good idea anyways for an accident prone child). They do want to take a closer look at his brain. They felt further testing was necessary. I'm all for being on the safe side. So we have another appointment next week for an MRI. Too bad they have to put him under for this one. Before we left, the nurse practitioner ran simple tests on him to see if he was developing properly. She said he is developing mentally and physically right on schedule. She wanted to make sure that we knew that seizures wouldn't affect his way of life.
We know he isn't the only child to ever have seizure. We have actually come to find out that a lot of our friends and neighbors have had a child suffer from a seizure. It is more common then we think. The night he had his seizure, Dane gave Brayden a blessing and we were told that he would fully recover from this. We just have to have faith that everything is going to be just fine with him. And we do.
